FIRST APPOINTMENT GUIDE

1

Making an appointment

You can make an appointment with us by calling (08) 9226 2968. Although it is not necessary to have a referral to see an Oral Medicine Specialist, we strongly recommend that a referral is obtained from your Dentist or your Medical Practitioner. By working together in a team setting and through collaboration with your other health care providers, we can achieve the best outcomes for your oral health.

2

How to find us

We are located on the first floor of the West Sands building at 42-44 Parliament Place in West Perth. If you prefer to take the lift, please ensure that you use the blue lift. Do not use the red lift, as it will take you to another part of the building.

3

What to bring

To facilitate your consultation with us, we request that you bring with you:

  1. A list of all your medications, including any supplements you may be taking.
  2. A list containing the names and addresses of your Dentist, Medical Practitioner and any other healthcare provider whom you would like us to communicate with about your oral health.
  3. Your Medicare Card.

4

What to expect

We allow 45 minutes for your first appointment. We request that you arrive in our rooms 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow enough time to fill in New Patient Documents. During your initial consultation we will discuss with you the problem for which you have been referred as well as the information you have provided in your history forms. We will also undertake a comprehensive physical examination. Please note that lipstick and denture adhesive materials limit our ability to examine the lips and oral soft tissues and we request that these products not be used immediately prior to your consultation with us.

5

Can I claim the cost of my consultation and treatment?

Consultants at Oral Medicine WA hold dental qualifications and a Medicare rebate cannot be claimed for your consultation or any treatment received. If you hold dental cover under your private health insurance, you will be able to claim part of your consultation and treatment costs through your private Health Fund. We will always provide you with the exact consultation costs at the time your appointment is made. Please note that as the rebated amount is highly variable among patients, depending on factors such as your Health Fund and level of cover, we are unable to advise you what that rebate is likely to be. We are however very happy to provide you with the relevant item numbers to allow you to obtain this information from your private Health Fund ahead of your appointment.
